PROJECT STORY / IRON ROCK CONCRETE
What the patio needed
The existing patio covered approximately 700–800 square feet. Its concrete was cracked and displaced by tree roots. Iron Rock’s task was to replace the patio, not cover over the existing damage. Its size, access and root damage shaped the replacement work.
PROJECT STORY / IRON ROCK CONCRETE
Working with limited access
The property did not have suitable equipment access to the work area. The crew removed the old concrete, excavated and brought gravel in by hand, working within the access available at the property.
PROJECT STORY / IRON ROCK CONCRETE
An arborist’s review before root removal
An arborist reviewed the affected roots before removal. That review guided the root work before the crew continued preparing the patio area.
PROJECT STORY / IRON ROCK CONCRETE
A compacted gravel base
After removing the old concrete and excavating, the crew brought in gravel by hand and compacted the base. The prepared area was then ready for the replacement concrete.
PROJECT STORY / IRON ROCK CONCRETE
Colored concrete with a broom finish
The replacement patio combined colored concrete with a broom finish. Color and surface finish are separate choices: this project used a broom texture rather than a stamped pattern.
PROJECT STORY / IRON ROCK CONCRETE
An approach shaped by the property
Limited equipment access and tree-root damage shaped the work. The crew’s hand removal and material handling, together with the arborist’s review, were part of this particular replacement. Iron Rock can review your patio and explain the work needed at your property during a free site visit.

USEFUL ANSWERS
Before the work begins.
Practical answers about the service, the estimate and how Iron Rock helps.
Can the patio connect to existing walks or a porch?
Yes. We can review the patio and its connecting walkways together. Door thresholds, steps, existing levels, water movement and routes through the yard influence a comfortable layout.
Which finishes can I choose?
Iron Rock offers broom finishes, smooth/troweled finishes where appropriate, exposed aggregate, stamped concrete and colored concrete. We help match the appearance and texture to how the space will be used.
How do you approach a yard with limited equipment access?
Access affects how material is removed and brought in, and therefore the work and estimate. On a colored, broom-finished patio replacement, our crew completed removal, excavation and gravel delivery by hand. We assess your access rather than assuming the same approach suits every site.
What happens when tree roots affect the patio?
Existing root damage needs attention before replacement. On our colored, broom-finished patio replacement, an arborist reviewed the affected roots before removal. We assess root concerns individually so decisions about trees and the new surface can be made together.
Are estimates and site visits free?
Yes. Estimates and site visits are free. Seeing the property lets us review access, existing surfaces, layout and the finish you want rather than price the work from square footage alone.
